MBBS Admission — Frequently Asked Questions

18 expert answers across 7 topics — from NEET eligibility to career guidance after MBBS.

NEET & Eligibility 3
What is NEET?
NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is the national entrance examination for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other medical courses in India. Admission to almost all Government, Private, and Deemed Medical Colleges requires NEET qualification.
Is NEET mandatory for MBBS admission?
Yes. NEET qualification is mandatory for admission to any recognized MBBS program in India. MBBS admission is not possible without a valid NEET score.
How many marks are required to qualify NEET?
The NEET qualifying marks vary every year based on the cutoff percentile. Qualifying NEET and securing an MBBS seat are two different things. A student may qualify NEET but still require higher marks for MBBS admission in a good college.
Admission Chances 3
Can I get MBBS admission based on my NEET score?
MBBS admission depends on multiple factors: NEET Score, AIR Rank, Category, State, Domicile, Budget, Counselling Authority, and Government / Private / Deemed College preference. For accurate guidance, share your NEET score, category, state, and budget with our counsellors.
How many marks are required for a Government MBBS College?
The required marks for Government MBBS Colleges vary every year. Cutoffs depend on seat availability, competition level, category, and counselling trends. Previous years' cutoffs provide a reasonable estimate — our College Predictor tool shows verified historical cutoff data.
Can I get MBBS with a low NEET score?
Yes. While Government MBBS seats may be difficult to secure with lower scores, students can explore Private Medical Colleges, Deemed Universities, and other admission options depending on their eligibility and budget. Our counsellors can guide you through all available pathways.
Medical Counselling 3
What is Medical Counselling?
Medical Counselling is the process through which students are allotted medical colleges based on their NEET rank, category, preferences, and seat availability after NEET results are declared. It is conducted by MCC (for AIQ), state authorities, and individual deemed universities.
What is the difference between AIQ and State Quota?
AIQ (All India Quota) allows students to compete for seats across India — 15% of Government college seats are reserved under AIQ and filled by MCC. State Quota seats (85%) are reserved primarily for eligible domicile students of that specific state, filled through state counselling authorities.
What is Choice Filling?
Choice Filling is the process of selecting and prioritizing preferred colleges and courses during counselling. The order of your choices directly impacts your allotment. Proper strategic choice filling can significantly improve your admission outcome. Peace Educational Consultant assists students through this critical step.
Deemed Universities 3
What is a Deemed University?
A Deemed University is a higher education institution granted special academic status by the Government of India. MBBS admissions in Deemed Universities are generally conducted through MCC Counselling (for AIQ seats) or the university's own counselling process.
Is an MBBS degree from a Deemed University valid?
Yes. MBBS degrees from NMC (National Medical Commission) recognized Deemed Universities are fully valid and accepted throughout India for postgraduate studies, government jobs, and medical practice.
Is it a good decision to choose a Deemed University?
The answer depends on your NEET score, budget, career goals, and available Government or Private College options. Many Deemed Universities offer excellent infrastructure, faculty, and clinical exposure. Our counsellors evaluate your full profile before recommending the best-fit option.
Management Quota 2
Does Management Quota mean donation-based admission?
No. Management Quota is an officially approved admission category. Colleges have defined and regulated fee structures for these seats approved by the respective fee regulatory authority. Management Quota and donation-based admission are not the same thing.
Is NEET required for Management Quota MBBS admission?
Yes. NEET qualification is mandatory for all MBBS admissions in India, including Management Quota seats. There is no exception to this rule under the current NMC regulations.
NRI Quota 2
What is the NRI Quota?
The NRI Quota is a category of seats in private and deemed medical colleges reserved for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) or students sponsored by eligible NRI relatives. These seats have a separate higher fee structure and follow a different admission process.
What documents are required for NRI Quota admission?
Required documents typically include: Passport, Valid Visa, Proof of NRI Status, Relationship Proof (if sponsored), Sponsorship Affidavit, Embassy-attested documents, and any additional documents specified by the counselling authority or college. Requirements may vary by institution.
Career Guidance 2
Should I take admission this year or drop for another NEET attempt?
This decision depends on several personal factors: your current NEET score, target college, financial situation, mental readiness, and the realistic likelihood of improving your score in the next attempt. There is no universal right answer — the right choice is different for each student. Speak with our counsellors for a personalised assessment.
What career options are available after MBBS?
After MBBS, students can pursue: Postgraduate studies (MD/MS/Diploma), Government Medical Services, Private Practice, Hospital Administration, Medical Research, Teaching & Academia, Public Health, or International licensing pathways for practicing in the UK, USA, Australia, or the Middle East.
